For 23 years it was a bustling Sonic Drive-In restaurant but it’s been converted to a UPS Store. The business owners were referred to REI by Community State Bank, Poteau, for alternative business financing and REI was able to meet the need.
By partnering with USDA Rural Development, REI secured funding through REI’s direct lending program. Loan funds were utilized to purchase the business and for renovations, franchise fees and working capital.
The UPS Store is owned by Robert and Olga Reed. According to Robert, the store opened in 1981 as Mail Boxes, Etc., but in 2003, the business merged with UPS and it became a one stop shop for packing and shipping needs. The Reeds have taken the business to the next level by expanding into document services, replacing existing equipment and a complete remodel of the facility.
“REI was very good to work with and I encourage anyone thinking about starting a business to get in touch with them,” Reed said. “They stay in touch and offer technical assistance well after the loan closes and they have other services available too.”
